Colourful Collective’s music wing provides a fortnightly music group to asylum seekers in Dandenong and simultaneously assists asylum seeker musicians to establish their careers here in Melbourne. CC currently collaborate with musicians such as Paul Biel and Gordon Koang. Gordon Koang is a renowned Sudanese musician who masters the Thom, which originates from Sudan, and has 5, 6 or 7 strings. Due to its set range the Thom is usually limited to one harmonic field, however, Koang often retunes the instrument for different arrangements. CC music is making plans to collaborate with luthier Tim Kill to make a series of Thoms for the community. CC recently held their debut concert with Mani (Iranian asylum seeker) and Koang at LOOP Project Bar in the CBD.
